Bryan Stevens is managing editor for The Erwin Record. He holds a master’s degree in English from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He has been an editor for the Jonesborough Herald & Tribune and The Elizabethton Star, as well as for the ETSU student-operated East Tennessean. From fall 2014 to spring of 2021, he served as adjunct faculty in the ETSU Department of Literature and Language, providing instruction in composition, research and early American writers. He has been an active birder since 1993 and has written a weekly column on birds, birding and birders since 1995. He has received two Meeman Awards for “Best Single Editorial” presented by a partnership between the Tennessee Press Association and the University of Tennessee Edward J. Meeman Foundation. He is an enthusiastic reader of history and biography, particularly of Tudor history. He’s a science-fiction fan of novels in the “Dune” and “Foreigner” series.
