Saddle up: Jonesborough Days parade accepting applications

The Town of Jonesborough has announced that the 55th Annual Jonesborough Days Parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 4, launching a two-day celebration of patriotism and local heritage.According to a press release from the town, this year's theme is "Western Disco," a nod to the event's 1970s origins and Northeast Tennessee's country music roots.The Town invites participation in the parade from community groups, businesses and individuals, who are encouraged to incorporate red, white, blue and disco-inspired elements into their entries. Applications must be submitted online at JonesboroughDays.com, the release said. According to the release, entry fees vary for different entry categories.The release stated that several awards will recognize outstanding entries, including the Stars & Stripes Grand Prize for best overall entry and the Spirit of Freedom Award for entries showcasing heritage and patriotism.Other honors include the Patriotic Harmony Award for unity through music and presentation; the Stars of Tomorrow Award, sponsored by the Jonesborough Kiwanis, for floats highlighting children or children's causes in a patriotic context; and the Red, White & Food Award, sponsored by the Jonesborough Food Pantry, which will go to the group or float donating the most food to the pantry.All parade vehicle drivers are required to attend a mandatory safety meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the Jonesborough Visitors Center, 117 Boone St., Jonesborough.
