Momma's Thrifty open for business in Unicoi

Local shoppers have a new place to shop for holiday treasures at the newly opened Momma's Thrifty in Unicoi. Mother and daughter Linda Cutler and Karen Gouge opened the shop as a small storefront featuring yard sale items and now have relocated to a larger and more versatile location. "The expanded store offers a wide range of thrifty merchandise, including clothing, home décor and large furniture pieces, providing customers with a broader selection and an improved shopping experience," said Cutler. The move reflects the continued growth and dedication of a family-owned business committed to offering quality secondhand goods and exceptional value to the community, according to Cutler. Momma's Thrifty held a soft opening on Nov. 7 to allow loyal customers an opportunity to view the new store and take advantage of early deals while the location was still a work in progress. "At Momma's Thrifty, there truly is something for everyone. About 75% of the items in the store are priced under $10, making it a destination for affordable finds and great value," Cutler said. The shop features a fully stocked kitchen section, home décor, clothing, furniture, tools, collectibles, antiques and plenty of surprises. Cutler said inventory hits the floor daily, and the selection is always changing. Cutler added that she is constantly on the hunt for fresh finds, while her daughter ensures steady stock rotation so shoppers can enjoy new deals every day. If shoppers are looking for something specific, Cutler or Gouge are always happy to help. If it's not in the store, they'll do their best to find any items shoppers are searching for. To keep the store full of unique treasures, Cutler offers services such as house clearings, estate sales and yard sale pickups, helping others clear out spaces with ease while keeping great items in circulation for the community to enjoy. Cutler said that the inspiration for Momma's Thrifty came from a desire to help the community, epically with all the trials the area has faced. "We wanted to create a place where people could find the things they need—and even the things they want — without breaking the bank," she said. The store's foundation is built on strong family values passed down from Cutler's mother and Gouge's mammaw, Geraldine, who instilled the biblical principles of helping a neighbor, being kind and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. The mother and daughter want their shop to be a beacon for the community filled with kindness and generosity. Momma's Thrifty is now open for regular business hours, operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. A grand opening celebration is planned for Black Friday, Nov. 28, featuring hot chocolate, Christmas cookies and live music to mark the completion of the new store.
