Writer issues call to action on county education

To the editor, My name is Jeremy "J.B." Banner. I am writing as a concerned resident of Unicoi County with deep family roots here. I believe our community stands at a pivotal moment. In a time of increasing division we have a profound opportunity to choose a different path, one of unity, not through conflict, but through a shared investment knowledge and love. This is not just a slogan; it is a call to action. I am proposing the creation of a new lifelong partnership with our Unicoi County School System. The goal is to address a growing gap in fundamental practical knowledge. We must ensure our next generation has a firm grasp on the basics – from the chemistry that builds our world to the foundational literacy needed to understand it, but more than that, we must create programs that teach resilience, helping our students learn to pick themselves up when they fall down and learn from the experience. This initiative aims to go beyond the standard curriculum. I envision leveraging our local community talent to create robust vocational-tech training opportunities, mentorship programs and a true collaboration between our schools and our local industries. I will be bringing this proposal to Unicoi County Coalition and State Fatherhood Initiative programs seeking to join forces with other leaders who share this vision. This is the first step of a larger plan, but it must begin here at home. From the dead-end road that splits creeks into multiple creeks, we all have the chance to create the framework for education and community strength that can serve as a model.
