Rocky Fork sets fly fishing workshop for Jan. 31

Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park plans to offer a workshop on "Fly Fishing Mountain Streams" from noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 31. Participants should meet ahead of the start time at Rocky Fork Ranger Station located at 280 Jennie Moore Road, Flag Pond. There is a $20 fee. Join a beginner-friendly workshop to learn the basics of this timeless mountain sport while discovering the story of Rocky Fork's native brook trout. During this four-hour course, participants will:• Learn how to set up a fly rod, tie essential knots and choose the right flies• Practice casting techniques for small Appalachian streams• Gain hands-on fishing experience in Rocky Fork's pristine waters Winter offers a unique experience on the water. Brook trout and wild rainbow trout remain active in cold conditions, and workshop leaders will share tips for fishing responsibly during this season while protecting sensitive habitats. The session is limited to six participants who must be 13 or older. A valid Tennessee fishing license and a trout permit are required if you plan to fish. Fly rods and basic gear will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own. Participants are advised to wear water shoes or wading boots and clothing suitable for cold, shallow creeks.
