Virginia fugitive arrested in Flag Pond traffic stop

A Bristol man was arrested and charged during a traffic stop for possession of a Schedule III controlled substance with intent to sell and for being a fugitive of the state, according to the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department. On Thursday, Jan. 22, Unicoi County Sheriff's Criminal Interdiction deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Flag Pond. During the stop, deputies said they deployed a drug sniffing canine that made a positive alert on the odor of narcotics. Deputies identified a passenger of the vehicle as being a fugitive from justice and wanted for outstanding warrants from the State of Virginia, according to officials. JB Goodman, 35, of Bristol, was found to be in possession of a large bundle of 140 Suboxone strips and $1,460.00 in currency believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs, according to officials. Goodman was arrested and charged with possessing a Schedule III controlled substance with intent to sell, and being a fugitive from justice. The currency and drugs were seized by the Sheriff's office. Goodman is held without bond, awaiting adjudication of his charges and extradition back to the State of Virginia, according to officials. Criminal Interdiction Officers are deputies who have specific training and are assigned to search out violators who are engaged in criminal activity such as transporting or selling drugs, according to the release. The release states that the deputies are assigned to areas where the Sheriff's office receives reports of criminal activity. These deputies saturate the area and focus on traffic stops and other techniques to locate and prosecute offenders, according to the release. The Unicoi County Sheriff's Department asks citizens to report suspicious activity to the tip line at (423) 743-1855, where tips may be anonymous, according to the release.
