Soup Drive-ThruThe Unicoi County Animal Shelter will hold a Soup Drive-Thru fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (while supplies last) on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Walmart in Unicoi. Soup choices will include a pint of tomato, chicken noddle or loaded baked potato, accompanied by crackers, chocolate or vanilla cake, sourdough roll and a drink. Cost is $10. Full Moon HikeLamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park in Flag Pond will hold a January/February full moon hike with park ranger Jeff Sweeney on Saturday, Jan. 31. Attendees should gather by 7:15 p.m. at the interpretive fire pit parking lot. There is an $8 fee for this after-hours hike. Participants will take a moderate hike up to White Oak Flats to observe the full moon. Daddy-Daughter DanceThe Unicoi County High School Key Club will present the third annual Daddy-Daughter Dance from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, in the UCHS commons area. The theme for this year's dance is Valentine's Day in Paris. Tickets are $25 per couple and $5 for any additional child. Tickets will be sold at the door with doors opening at 5:45 p.m. Girls are invited to bring their dad, grandfather, uncle or another family member or special role model. Gardening SeminarThe Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners and Sycamore Shoals State Park will team together to present a gardening seminar series from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 21. The event will be held in the Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton and will teach attendees how to make gardening simpler with tips for having fewer weeds; doing no plowing, rototilling or hoeing; and ways for starting gardening earlier and ending later in the season. The series will be held in the Community Room inside the park's Visitors Center and will be presented by master gardeners Ben Hunter, Cameron Coates and David Faller. Yarn Bomb PreparationThose wishing to help with the creation of knitted items for the annua Yarn Bomb in downtown Erwin are invited to take part in weekly knitting sessions. The Yarn Bomb is a way to celebrate literacy and Dr. Seuss's birthday while also adding a splash of color to downtown Erwin in the weeks when people are awaiting the arrival of spring. The sessions, which began Jan. 12, will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday at LGS Architecture, 107 N. Main, Erwin, through the end of February.
