CSAC planning Lunch & Learn for Feb. 13

I hope everyone is staying safe during these bouts of snowy weather and hazardous road conditions. Please be careful when traveling back and forth.With the Clinchfield Senior Adult Center being closed for several days due to inclement weather, we've had to cancel several activities. Please keep an eye on the schedule for updates. Our Lunch & Learn with My Dignity will be rescheduled for a later date. ••• A quick reminder of our weather policy: When county schools are closed, the center is closed. When schools move to virtual learning, we are also considered closed. Thank you for your patience and understanding. ••• Looking ahead, don't miss out on our upcoming activities. We have Lunch & Learn with Chassidy Collins and Delora Bennett, who will be bringing their body fat composition scanner. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your own numbers and what that means for your health. The presentation will be accompanied by a Valentine's Taco Bar. Our Meals on Wheels coordinator needs a driver to deliver meals weekdays for our Unicoi route. The commitment would be from 10:30 to noon with no previous delivery experience needed. Training will be provided for comfort learning the route and fulfilling the needs of those who receive meals. We appreciate every business and health organization that sponsors our seniors. • Day trips on our bus: We have our very own bus here at the center so that you don't have to drive. We make it easier for you to enjoy shopping, dining, educational and recreational trips. • Fitness room: Includes treadmills, NuStep, bicycles, strength training and free weights. We also have yoga mat and balls that you can use. • Blood Pressure Clinic: Every Monday at 9 a.m. Diane Banks provides free blood pressure checks. Request a copy to give your doctor. • Drums Alive: This evidence-based class is a fun way to get into shape using drumsticks and yoga ball. Certified instructor Lisa Wright will take you through the motions as you keep the beat to your favorite music. This weekly class is free and an excellent way to stay in shape. • Circuit Aerobics: This is a cardio workout class using bands, free weights and balls. The great thing about this class is that it can cater to all types of mobility. You can use a chair if needed. This class is offered at 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. • Tai-Chi: This is such a wonderful fitness class to join. Bob Hechemovich teaches how to use slow movements to improve balance. This class will be held at 11:30 a.m. every Friday. •&emsp;&emsp;Arts & Crafts Room: Every member has access to our craft room. This is designated area where you can dream up and create works of art. We have plenty of supplies that have been donated by many caring individuals. • Library: We have a self-service library that allows people to take a book and bring it back when done reading. • Billiards: We have a newly renovated billiards room. We also offer a women's team on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Every morning, we have a group of people who meet to play.• Computer lab: We have brand-new computers. Visit any time during operating hours and use them. We also have a printer you can use for 25 cents a copy. If you need help, one of our staff will be happy to help you connect to the internet. • Homemade Goods: We offer a variety of goodies for sale. We have wonderful volunteers that take time every year to help us preserve and prepare our famous apple relish. We also offer apple pie filling, creamsicle. strawberry and chocolate chunk cookie mixes, Rotary and Ruritan apple butter, tea mixes and granola. We also offer fresh nuts for sale. We have pecan halves and pieces, black walnut and English walnut. Call the center for pricing. • Veterans Services: We have an onsite veterans service officer who can assist with benefits and service questions. He is here on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays. He is available Saturdays by appointment.
