CSAC schedules fishing trip and picnic for June 23

A big hello to the seniors of Erwin, Unicoi and surrounding areas. I want to draw attention to some of the upcoming activities on the calendar this month. But first, I want to discuss the process of signing up to become a member. If you are already a member at another facility, it's okay. You can still be a part of our Center too. It only takes a small amount of time to stop in and one of our staff would be happy to give you a tour. If you have Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield or United Healthcare, you could qualify for a free membership through your insurance. It also helps the center every time you sign in and click the attendance button. If you do not have these insurances, it's still an affordable fee of only $25 a year. Membership includes all amenities such as arts and crafts, trips, health education and a full fitness center. Another great program we have is Meals on Wheels. This is a nutrition program that will deliver a hot meal to you every day for a suggested $3 donation per meal. It's simple and easy to do. All you need to do is sign up three days ahead with our meal coordinator Carol Custer. Now, back to the activities we have this month. As the center's activities coordinator, I try to have something for everyone to get involved in. Next week we are going on our first-ever fishing trip! This will be a great time for senior fellowship and recreation, with fishing in a private pond and a picnic lunch. Don't miss out on this trip. Sign up now in the office. If we get full on the bus, you also have the option of following us in your own vehicle to the location. The cost is $8 per person. If you are following us, we ask that you please pay for your lunch at the office. The cost of lunch only will be $5. The bus will be leaving at 9:30 am on June 23. Let's not forget the Fitness Orientation on June 24 at 1 p.m. Bob Hechemovich will help you get orientated with the machines in the Fitness Room. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about your fitness goals. The other activity I want to highlight is Lunch & Learn with Valley Funeral Home. Join us on June 24 at 11 a.m. for lunch and to learn what kind of end-of-life arrangements Valley Funeral Home has to offer. I sure hope that you take the time to read this far. If so, I know if you're not a member, you probably want to be one now. I look forward to seeing you drop on by the office and give us a chance to be part of your life and part of your fun! Class is chair-friendly and adaptable for all mobility levels. At 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. • Tai chi: Improve balance with Bob Hechemovich's gentle, guided movements on Fridays. • Congregate Meals: Daily lunch for ages 60 and older with a suggested $3 donation. Sign up three days in advance. • Arts & Crafts Room: A fully stocked creative space open to all members. • Library: Take a book/return a book for easy reading. • Billiards: A newly renovated room with morning play and a women's team at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. • Computer Lab: New computers available during operating hours; printing is 25 cents per page. • Veteran Services: An onsite Veterans Service Officer is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. He is available on Saturdays by appointment.
