Return engagement by Project Allman set for Sept. 5

Fans of the Allman Brothers Band, take note. Capitol Hall of Erwin will host a return engagement performance by tribute band Project Allman at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. The group's drummer David Cohen spoke to The Erwin Record about the band. "Project Allman was thought up around 2023 when I found myself with some free time to finally put the right people together," Cohen said. "A tribute to the Allman Brothers Band has always been a dream of mine and the time and effort with a large group is sometimes complicated." Cohen described the current lineup as absolutely a fantastic bunch of human beings, and some of the greatest players he has had the chance to enjoy the stage with, and he feels it's an honor to have them on the project. Cohen spoke about the sound of his Allman Brothers salute band. "Project Allman brings the timeless sound of the Allman Brothers Band to life with passion, precision and deep southern soul," Cohen said. "This powerhouse tribute captures the twin-guitar harmonies, blues-soaked improvisation and driving rhythms that made the original band legendary." Cohen said the band plays soaring jams and heartfelt ballads, while recreating the spirit of classics like "Whipping Post," "Ramblin' Man" and "Midnight Rider" with authenticity and energy. With their second performance at Capitol Hall, Cohen describes what fans could expect if they missed the first show. "At Capitol Hall, audiences can expect an immersive live experience that channels the golden era of Southern rock – extended solos, tight musicianship and that unmistakable blend of blues, jazz, and country influence," Cohen said. In addition to Cohen on drums, members of Project Allman are: David Zimmer on percussion and vocals, Bradford Carson on guitar, Michael Berndt on drums, Dan Pederson on guitar and George Limbo on keyboards and vocals. All of the band members hail from Western North Carolina from Asheville to Brevard. The Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida. The band has been awarded seven Gold and four Platinum albums by the Recording Industry Association of America and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the band 52nd on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" published in 2010. Doors for the concert will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at capitolhall.com and at the door if the show doesn't sell out. Capitol Hall is located at 105 N. Main in Erwin.
